Los Atayupanqui son la familia noble más numerosa del barrio de San Jerónimo. Los Atayupanqui son nobles del ayllu Aucaylli, una de las panacas reales y por tanto descendientes de emperadores incas. Don Víctor aún recuerda los años 60 cuando la familia vestía sus mejores ropas para la fiesta de Corpus Christi, como lo había hecho su linaje desde tiempos inmemoriales. Isabel Atayupanqui Pachacútec, una prima del padre de Víctor, recibió el año pasado un reconocimiento oficial de las autoridades locales. Se trata de uno de los pocos casos en que la memoria prehispánica sigue viva. Los Atayupanqui todavía son dueños de chacras en las tierras ancestrales de sus ayllus: Sucno-Aucaylli, Andamachay y Raurau. Tierras que datan del inicio de la época colonial. Pero su familia no es la única. Están los Tupacyupanqui, Ccorimanya y Sinchi Roca.
